Vermio Razor Finisher Honing Stone - 7 3/4” (195mm) x 2 3/4” (70mm)
This is the genuine Vermio natural sharpening stone, a newly discovered razor and fine instrument hone of the highest order. Quarried from mountain Vermio in the Eordaean region of southern Macedonia, Greece, this stone will quickly impart a very keen yet smooth edge on straight razors, and polish any high quality steel to a high level. Each hone is supplied with a rubbing stone for making slurry to increase the cutting speed of the stone before proceeding to clear water or oil. Suitable for the highest quality razors, fine instruments, knives or tools. Finish with light slurry, clear water, glycerine or oil according to your preference.
The Vermio hone is of medium hardness (similar to a harder coticule or dark blue thuringian) and finishes finer than a Thuringian hone in our experience, likely in the 12-15K grit range, with the finest edge being achieved with a light oil or a glycerin and water solution. The stone is non-porous so can be washed of oil and used with water afterwards. These stones are individually split, cut and lapped by hand, and each measure 7 3/4” (195mm) long x 2 3/4” (70mm) wide and (20mm) thick. The top surface is flattened and chamfered on loose grit from our supplier, but can be further lapped for a polished surface.
These are hand mined, natural stones, and as such the color, size and shape will vary slightly from stone to stone. A selection of representative examples can be seen in the photos.
