Extremely large and beautiful Aiiwatani deep layer Suita (Shiki Suita) This mixed layer stone appears to be a mixture of Hon Tomae, Shiki Tomae with Aisa layer highlighting h. The stones Orange colored end caps and gentle easy to use feeling for such a hard stone indicats the presence of Hon Tomae. The stone's Mizu Asagi base color combined with its high hardness, density and fine particles are indicative of Shiki Tomae. With impressive size and excellent performance characteristics, this stone is extremely difficult to beat in terms of price to performance ratio, especially for a razor finisher. This stone is great for Mikawa Nagura progressions with its high hardness. The stone translates feedback effectively. It's also great for standalone finishing due its ease of use and it's just fast enough to support effective scratch removal if slurry is forced via diamond plate. The stone is just gentle enough to allow for knives where a fine, mirror like finish is desired. These harder Aiiwatani are extremely popular with carpenters in Japan.
A photo of the stone's polishing ability on soft and hard steels of a Japanese kitchen knife are shown.
