This exceptional Japanese whetstone was purchased by us from the estate of a collector of fine Japanese hones. We have thoroughly tested it and our results are shared below.

It measures 203 mm (7.99 inches) long × 75 mm (2.95 inches) wide × 30 mm (1.18 inches) tall, and weighs 1320 g (46.56 oz / 2.91 lbs).

Hardness: 4.8
Beautiful Nakayama Mizu Asagi with orange, Kan-like, end caps. This stone is very hard and fine, perfect for finishing razors with Mikawa Shiro Nagura. This stone is quite user friendly for its hardness. With classic light blue Mizu Asagi base and the orange Kan rings, the stone really comes to life when wet with deep, holographic underlying patterns. Best for finishing razors with Mikawa Nagura progressions. The stone is quite easy going with semi quiet feedback, which is sometimes a trade off for smooth, easy going, resistance free feel. The stone breaks down slurry at a normal rate with straight forward, standard honing practices. This would be a great stone for a user looking for a really hard stone which is easy to operate and straightforward with consistent results. A great, baseline/control example in which to compare other hard stones against. Can be used as a standalone hone as well. Most likely a mixture of Hon Tomae and Shiki Tomae. A near perfect stone in almost every regard and quite versatile for its hardness and super fine particles. Definitely a collection grade stone.
