Numata Japanese Natural Medium Grit Whetstone

Selected by us and imported directly from Japan, this Japanese whetstone has been sealed on the sides and back with clear lacquer for protection and extensively tested to assess its performance. Complete details of our testing results are provided below.

Vintage Numata Naka Toishi medium fine grit koppa. Numata are widely considered to be some of best overall Naka Toishi or medium grit natural stones. Their fine composition is evident immediately and displays great density. Quite firm for a medium stone and feels similar in hardness to firm Iyoto but the texture and feedback of Numata is notably more fine and smooth, especially with water only. This Numata has a fine and consistent grain which is highly abrasive and fast with inky swarf produced immediately. Can remove 1000 grit scratches quickly and efficiently with excellent feedback and smooth operation. Produces a highly polished edge and Kasumi. Scratches remaining are extremely fine and can be nearly removed with extended work and finese. Results are similar to Mikawa Shiro Nagura. Can also be used highly effectively as a Nagura with pleasant honing feel and aggressive cutting speed.
