Okudo is one of the most revered Eastern, Yamashiro Mines in Kyoto. Okudo is known in Japan as "Suitayama" as it is common for all layers/strata to contain Su holes, which are microscopic holes in the stone produced by gas and pressure escaping while the stone was forming. Su can help to increase the stone's cutting speed and also aids in the stone's ability to avoid clogging. Okudo Suita are widely known for being considered "King of Suita" and they're highly revered in the Japanese Craftsmen community for their versatility and performance characteristics. Okudo Suita are becoming increasingly rare and bench sized stones are rare to find. This group of stones were set aside for a large festival in Japan and we were lucky enough to gain access to these special selections! Beautiful Hon Suita with splashes of traditional orange/yellow and light blue Suita base color. Extremely fast stone with inky black swarf created instantly. This Suita is hard but not super hard, rather it demonstrates a smooth, forgiving honing sensation. Can be used with Nagura progressions but a bit of base stone will release. Great for standalone finishing techniques as well. Produces a crisp, clean, lightsaber edge with proper technique and time. Great for knives and tools with ultra smooth operation. Perfect for polishing with fast cutting speed and produces a slightly hazy, yet highly refined Kasumi finish. Edges/polish on tools/knives can range depending on how refined you take the finishing process.
