Tajima are hard medium to medium fine grit stones which are perfect for fine blades like razors. They were mined to the west of Kyoto, and the mine has been closed for many decades. These hard to find hones are cut from old stocked up raw material. They are highly abrasive stones which yield many possibilities in terms of refinement and polish. Because of their high hardness, they release very little slurry when used with water only. This yields a surprisingly fine, bright finish. When slurry is forced, the stones highly abrasive particles remove scratches very quickly and efficiently resulting in a dark, hazy finish. This wide range is very unique and one would be hard pressed to find a more versatile medium grit stone. Pictured are two Polishing examples. First with forced slurry from a worn Atoma 600 which will yield insanely fast cutting speed. The second is an example of using the stone with water only and less pressure, allowing the stone's firm base to refine the finish. Many other methods of slurrying the stone and using different ways will yield a variety of interesting results! 

All koppa listed here are medium hard (rated 4.5 on a 5-point scale), making them ideal for razor middle grit honing or bevel repair.
