Vintage Takao Kuro Renge Suita with original box. Takao was a mine which is lesser known abroad but highly regarded in Japan. Many Takao stones were sold by Hatanaka mining Co. This example is from a different defunct wholesaler. This is a 60' size stone which is a slightly scaled down, rectangular bench stone. This pure and gorgeous Suita features a classic Tenjou Suita blue base with dense Kuro black Renge and Kan patterns. Not only is a stunning looker, but it performs at an extremely high level as well. This Suita is quite firm with an elastic, forgiving feel. It's extremely grit rich and fast cutting with a high volume of inky black slurry produced immediately with water only when honing a plane. This is an extremely versatile Suita with applications across the board including razors, knives, tools and swords.
