Hardness: 3
Hideriyama Tomae with Asagi base and multi colored Iromono tones running within and across the surface. Hideriyama is known for softer, easy to work stones and this is no exception. for most applications, this would be considered a pre finishing or lower end finishing stone in terms of overall refinement. however, as its composed of larger particles, it cuts efficiently and removes medium grit scratches with ease. With softer base hardness, it releases its own grit rich slurry easily creating lubrication. When honing razors, it is advised to keep the slurry thin and hydrated to avoid setting back the edge. When honing, there will be a "cap" in the level of potential refinement as fresh abrasive is constantly being released, therefore considered a pre finishing stone. When used for cutlery, these softer Hideriyama are wonderful for a wide variety of steel types including some chromium carbide containing steels which typically don't pair well with most natural stones. In terms of polishing, it does an excellent job in creating a highly contrasting kasumi finish. This stone has a few thin lines. They can be removed easily as the stone is quite soft. Priced to reflect the lines.
