Hideriyama Tomae Koppa Toishi Japanese Whetstone

This exceptional Japanese whetstone was selected by us and imported directly from Japan, thoroughly tested and coated with cashew lacquer on sides to protect the stone for long term use.
It measures 215 mm (8.46 inches) long × 80 mm (3.15 inches) wide × 25 mm (0.98 inches) tall, and weighs 988 g (2.18 pounds).

This large koppa is an extremely high quality stone from the Hideriyama mine. Hideriyama stones are known for their fast cutting ability, user friendly nature and rarity. With the mine closing recently due to an accident, no more Hideriyama stones will be mined in the near future making them increasingly more rare. This stone double sided with each side performing a bit differently. The stamped side of the stone is a bit harder and more fine. The stones cutting power is immediately noticeable when honing water only. The stone will self slurry lightly on the stamped side. on the back side, the stone is softer and self slurry is obviously more prevalent. This stone is perfect for removing medium grit scratches and either finishing or pre finishing. For knives, the stone is a perfect polishing and edge stone.
