Hideriyama is a western, Tanba area mine. Hideriyama is known for producing softer, highly abrasive stones which are amazing for knives, tools, razors and swords. Hideriyama stones are versatile with many applications due their softer base hardness. Hideriyama has unique geology and is composed of a different layer of stone than all other mines. This Uroku layer stone is one of these examples. Uroku can be described similarly to Aisa layer stones from Honkuchinaori mines like Nakayama. Uroku is located underneath the Tomae layers and above the Suita layers. Many of the Uroku layer stones demonstrate Suita-like performance characteristics. Creates a polish similar to Uchigumori with amazing contrast between the core steel and cladding. Cladding is dark, deep and detailed with silvery, bright, hazy core.
