Japanese Natural Finishing Toishi Whetstone - Nakayama Asagi koppa

This exceptional Japanese whetstone was purchased by us from the estate of a collector of fine razors & hones. It measures 139 mm (5.47 in) long × 112 mm (4.41 in) wide × 23 mm (0.91 in) tall, and weighs 915g.

Very high quality Nakayama Asagi koppa. This stone has excellent high hardness and still has a very mild and gentle feel under the blade. The stone is a fast cutter and insanely high polisher. it excelled when sharpening multiple kitchen knives and razors. Mikawa Nagura progressions were an absolute treat with this stone. It's so dense and hard but gentle and informative of slurry feeling. This is a rare trait which isnt often seen in stones of this hardness. The stone is also very fast cutting. This was evident through macro testing with knives. The subtle elasticity that allows for firm pressure to be applied with no scratchy feeling at all. This is common in high quality Nakayama. Immediately upon sharpening a knife, the stone cuts fast and pure black swarf is released. when low pressure polishing, the stone feels like gliding and the resulting polish is an even, bright, semi-mirror finish with great contrast. A dream stone!!!
