Beautiful and pure Shobudani Mizu Asagi. This stone has great hardness making it great for razors and knives. Though it is a hard stone, it has a smooth, high quality tactile feel. It's beautiful Mizu Asagi coloration blends into green tones, very visually appealing. The backside has beautiful chisel marks, possibly the miner indicating a special piece.
For razors, water only honing was extremely fast with light, satin feedback. The stone is very dense and fine. Cutting speed is moderate.
With Mikawa Nagura, the stone releases a bit of itself into the slurry but feedback was still on point.
With diamond plate slurry, the stone cut and darkened the slurry displaying faster cutting ability. the resulting edges were extremely fine and comfortable. For knives, This stone will self slurry a tiny bit but mostly cut with black swarf release immediately with a smooth gliding feeling. A very high quality harder stone. Kasumi finish is a bright, semi mirror finish with light haze.
A photo of the resulting polish left on a high quality Japanese knife is shown.
