This exceptional Japanese whetstone was selected by us and imported directly from Japan, thoroughly tested and sealed on sides and back to protect the stone for long term use.

Extremely rare Kizuyama Hon Suita. Kizuyama was a mine located in close proximity to Nakayama. Kizuyama Suita are extremely rare and highly regarded among Japanese Craftsmen for their versatility and performance characteristics which closely resembles Nakayama's Hon Suita. Kizuyama Suita often have red striped patterns on the sides and surface which closely resembles Nakayama's Suita. Therefore they are often times mistaken or mis labeled at places such as online auctions. This vintage example was surely much taller but was used heavily by the craftsman from which it was acquired. This is a hard Suita with high abrasive power and hyper keen polishing ability. This Suita currently has a few su holes on the surface. I couldn't feel them and didn't experience scratching when honing a plane blade. Priced lower to reflect the su.
