This exceptional Japanese whetstone was selected by us and imported directly from Japan, thoroughly tested and sealed on the sides to protect the stone for long term use.

It measures 165 mm (6.50 inches) long × 70 mm (2.76 inches) wide × 16 mm (0.63 inches) tall, and weighs 402 g (14.17 oz / 0.89 lbs).

Asano Stamped Mikawa Shiro Nagura Koma with flat surface for direct honing. This Koma is stamped Tokyuju. It is a hard, fine Koma with a unique, gentle feel. The stones surface comes to life with water showing its mottled orange, Nashiji-like patterns over it's white base. When honing with water only, the stone is smooth with a hint of dry feeling. There are some black dots on the surface but they do not present any issues when honing or polishing. This stone can be used with slurry made from various Mikawa Nagura, Tomo Nagura or diamond plate slurry. Each method will yield its own unique results. This Koma definitely polishes on the fine side with burnishing technique creating its own unique finish. These Koma are cherished by sword and Honyaki knife polishers and as they're extremely rare, they're almost never seen for sale, especially in the US. A unique piece of sharpening history!

A photo of the stone's polishing ability on soft and hard steels of a Japanese kanna (plane) blade are shown.
