This is the hardest and most fine piece of Uchigumori of the entire batch. A bit more hard and fine than stone #4002, but not by much. The fact that it's a harder and more fine Uchigumori makes it great for razors. The softer Uchigumori are great as well for razors but finish a bit more coarse. This isnt better or worse but simply put, the softer, less fine stones just fall earlier in a honing progression. This particular harder Uchigumori isn't quite as fast cutting as the softer bench stones but finishes a bit more fine, but not by too much. Honing on water only is velvety and smooth. Creating diamond plate slurry increases the speed and tactile feel of the stone dramatically. At this point a razor is nearly finished and a little thin tomo Nagura slurry will finish the edge to a comfortable shave. When polishing knives on this stone, the speed of cutting of the cladding/soft iron is dramatically fast. This is great data proving the stone is a true Jito. The resulting Kasumi finish is refined but hugely contrasting. Another collector grade, high quality stone in affordable koppa shape.
