Nakayama Mizu Asagi Japanese Natural Finishing Whetstone

This exceptional Japanese whetstone was selected by us and imported directly from Japan, thoroughly tested and sealed on sides and back to protect the stone for long term use. 

It measures 235 mm (9.25 inches) long × 78 mm (3.07 inches) wide × 27 mm (1.06 inches) tall, and weighs 1320 g (46.56 oz / 2.91 lbs).

Pristine old mined Nakayama Mizu Asagi from Shiki Tomae strata. An extremely dense, hard and fine razor finisher which is versatile enough for knives and tools as well. This beautiful Mizu features a classic light, water blue base with varying shades of greens and blues. This stone also features patterns similar to Hachimai leopard like mottling. Not only is it visually beautiful but it performs far above expectation as well. Perfect for mikawa nagura progression with its hard base but has a bit of the characteristic elasticity which allows for heavier blades to be used without scratching. Although quite hard, it retains the super fine, grit rich silica abrasive Nakayama stones are known for. Although not super fast like a softer stone, it cuts effectively when slurried with diamond plate. The base hardness is such that particles can be refined to a super fine level and this stone is capable of producing light saber edges. A rare, large sized Nakayama Asagi which is becoming very rare.
