These Nakayama tomo nagura were processed from old mining stone. With softer many newly mined stones hitting the market lately, these tomo are a refreshing blast to the past. We've made these available in Akapin, which is softer, and Tomae which are noticeably more dense and fine.

Akapin: Less dense and firm than tomae but still well into the realm of finishing. These Nakayama Akapin have been a pleasant surprise boasting much higher hardness for Akapin. Theyre quite impressive in terms of cutting speed and provide a unique abrasive slurry which is rich and beautiful with its blood red coloration. These Akapin tomo nagura are unique in that they're fast enough to release a bit of base stone as well as its own red mud. With slightly larger particles than tomae combined with its softer nature, these akapin start out aggressive and capable impressive scratch removal. As the slurry is broken down on a harder base stone, the particles are broken down and the edge is prepared to be finished with a fine, finishing tomo nagura such as Nakayama Akapin or Aiiwatani Mizu Asagi. Rare Nagura!

Tomae: Classic Nakayama tomae with excellent hardness, density and extremely fine abrasive particles which are densely packed within. These Nakayama tomo nagura are the quintessential razor finishing tomo nagura. They are perfect for use on level 4+ finishing stones. They create extremely fine, abrasive slurry on the base stone which is perfect for transitioning from Mikawa Shiro Nagura progressions.
This slurry is both abrasive enough to remove koma scratches and breaks down fine enough for light saber, smooth, comfortable edges.
They can also be used after a softer, less fine tomo nagura to complete the progression and achieve extremely fine results.
