These Omura are sourced from old stock rough stones collected for the purpose of sword polishing. These particular Omura were quarried decades ago and the mine has been closed for years. These particular hones were selected for quality and consistency, which is essential in a sword polishing Progression. Tradition states that Omura is used for the first step in polishing and they're used for shaping and coarse work. The beauty of these Omura in particular is that they're firm and dense enough to support a higher level of particle breakdown that isn't possible in softer Omura. Although the stones start out on the coarse side, proper techniques such as hydration, pressure management and patience play a key role in achieving the finest finish possible. If these parameters are followed, the user is rewarded with a noticeable difference in terms of fineness of finish. Recently we were informed that future restocking of these stones is uncertain at best moving forward. Take this opportunity to get a sword grade quality Omura while they're still available!

These Omura's have a wide range of applications:
For razors, these Omura are great for bevel setting and repairs as they feature fast metal removal, initially when the stone is hydrated and slurry is released using firm pressure. As pressure is lightened and slurry dries, the particles break down and the razor is ready for a stone like Binsui, Aizu, Aoto or medium grit Synthetics. The main benefit of a high quality Omura for razors is that the edge is left with a mellow scratch pattern after slurry breakdown. For cutlery, tools and swords, the same concept of repair/bevel setting and ending with a beautiful finish for a coarse stone.
