This beautiful Shobudani Tomae Kiita is medium soft Kiita with smooth, velvet, rich feel. It's also a fairly grit rich, fast cutting stone making it quite versatile. It's best intended uses are knives/tools, pre-finishing and finishing of razors/Kamisori. When honing Kamisori, water only laps are smooth and the stone will self slurry and cut yielding a mixture of stone slurry and swarf. The slurry is quite fine for the stone's mellow nature. The stone is not the best option for Mikawa Nagura progressions but they're definitely possible. Either way, it's very important to keep the slurry diluted and thin maximum edge refinement. The stones best strength is definitely knife polishing/sharpening. The stone removed medium grit scratches and leaves and well refined yet even and consistent hazy Kasumi finish with ease. This stone is great for beginners as it's very user friendly and unfussy.
