An extremely rare and special stone indeed! Uchigumori from mines other than Mizukihara/Ohira are almost never seen in the west, making this Shobudani Uchigumori extremely desirable and collectable. Not only rare but this piece far exceeds expectations in terms of polishing performance. A firm, yet forgiving Tenjou Suita with exceptional cutting strength and refinement capabilities. The base color is tradional Uchigumori Blue with Karasu and dense Aka renge. Jam packed with fine, silica abrasive making it capable of quick medium grit scratches removal. The finish is quite refined while still maintaining great contrast. Extremely useful for Honyaki, clad blades, and tool finishing. Although firm, it has a gentle, cushioned feel which "locks the blade in." Will self slurry a bit with heavier blades but mostly inky cutting performance. When used for razors and kamisori, it works extremely well in removing medium grit scratches and preparing the blade for an even and consistent finish by creating a uniform blanket of nicely refined haze on the bevel.
