Vintage Shohonyama Mizu Asagi Goma. Hard, dense and fine Shohonyama for razors. Shohonyama is a general term used by wholesalers to describe either an unknown or undisclosed mine. This particular Mizu Asagi was mined from an Eastern, Yamashiro Area mine. A pure, dense, super hard stone which is perfect for razor and Kamisori honing using Nagura progressions. This piece was mined from the Shiki Tomae layer and features classic, Mizu Asagi blue base color with Goma. The quintessential hard razor finishing stone. This stone has less buoyancy and thus feels close to the stone while honing. Nagura feedback translates extremely well and the stone doesn't release much of any self slurry. During Nagura progressions, the slurry is primarily composed of the Nagura resulting in maximum cutting capacity and allowing for maximum particle breakdown. Creates windshield wiper shaves with proper techniques and time taken to break down the slurry and work the edge. Finesse is required and previous experience with super hard is preferred but also a great and slightly challenging way to experience a super hard Jnat for the first time.
