Descriptions from Keith Johnson's Etsy shop:
Purple Haze:
"Ridiculously fine. It is the abrasive eqivalent of 'ludicrous speed'.
How fine you ask? Lets just say we're working in millimicrons here. This stuff is significantly finer than Tomo Blue and most everything else out there.
It's not so much a sharpening compound as it is a polishing compound.
Note - Purple Haze is not a miracle cure for bad edges. It is not intended to be used in a 'paste progression' and please do noit use it that way.
For the Haze to do right by you, serious game must be on the table. If your edge is tugging, Purple Haze will not help you; this stuff is for edges are are already 100% on-point. On an 8" strop, 4-5 laps max does the trick.
This listing is for one block of abrasive paste. The second photo shows the approximate size of the cube of abrasive, and the suggested amount for application on a webbing strop; the webbing is not included. Each block will be a little differnt in size/weight. Please note that every block will also have a unique profile and dimensions. I make these myself and achieving form-factor uniformity is difficult. You will get enough paste to last you for decades of use, that's for sure."
Tomo-Blue:
"This listing is for one cube of Tomo-Blue compound; a unique abrasive with a 150 nm / 0.15 µm particle size.
In my own personal testing, compared to diamond and CBN sprays, Tomo-Blue delivered edges that were less tedious to shave with, and more face-friendly also. This is not a typical polishing compound, not in any sense of the term.
I manufacture these cubes here in my home, by hand, in very small batches. Each nugget will have a slightly different size, weight and profile. The one you receive will be similar but not exactly like those seen in the photos above. Some are larger, some are smaller, some are more cubic than others. Rest assured, each one works perfectly and contains a decade's worth of product for a casual user.
When tuning up your razor's edge with this paste, 4-5 laps will perk the edge up, a couple more might help but too many will cause issues. Less is more.
This process should not need to be done more than 2x a month - if your edge is falling off after 5-6 shaves, you need to hone your razor.
Note - Trying to make a dull edge sharp with abrasive pastes is going to yield a harsh edge. Hone correctly, use pastes wisely. Abrasive compounds in this class are for 'final polish' on top of an already excellent edge that is just starting to 'fall off'. Tomo-Blue is not for fixing bad edges or making mediocre edges 'sharper'.
Handle this product carfully, using gloves is recommended. Keep the abrasive off your fingers, skin, etc; it is wax-based and it can get messy. Handle this product like you would any household cleanser or powdered abrasive product; keep way from eyes, face, mouth, children, pets, etc. Wash your hands and/or any accidentally contaminated surface thoroughly."
