Hardness: 4.6
A dense, firm and fine Hon Tomae Kiita with Nashiji from Aiiwatani. this stone is an exceptional performer with a great balance of hardness, ease of use, cutting strength and fine finish. Many experts in Japan favor Aiiwatani stones as they perform very similarly to Nakayama stones in many ways. Represents a wonderful value in terms of cost/performance ratio. Extremely versatile stone with endless applications and wide range of possibilities in terms of finish. For razors, works best when used standalone with water only or forced slurry. Mikawa Nagura progressions are doable but the stone isn't super hard so there's a compromise in terms of feedback and ratio of base stone slurry. Great stone for tools and knives as well.
A photo of the stone's polishing ability on soft and hard steels of a Japanese kanna (plane) blade is shown.
