Nakayama Tomae Mizu Asagi Japanese Finishing Whetstone

This exceptional Japanese whetstone was selected by us and imported directly from Japan, thoroughly tested and sealed on sides and back to protect the stone for long term use. 

It measures 207 mm (8.15 inches) long × 75 mm (2.95 inches) wide × 15 mm (0.59 inches) tall, and weighs 690 g (24.34 oz / 1.52 lbs).

Very pure, dense and fine Nakayama Tomae. With Classic light blue Mizu (water color) base and deep holographic patterns this stone is a classic Mizu Asagi razor finisher. Most likely mined from a low Tomae layer such as Shiki Tomae which typically consists of dense, fine stones, Most of which are Asagi. This stone was tested side by side with other high quality Nakayama Asagi and this stone held its own with very similar characteristics. This particular stone straddles the line of super hard but like many Nakayama, this one has a slight cushion which creates a buoyancy effect. When sharpening a plane blade, the stone demonstrated high abrasive content, smooth gliding sensation, Fine abrasive particles and mirror like finish. Can be used for finishing razors, tools and cutlery. Being on the thinner side, this stone represents a wonderful value and high density, will last many years.
