Aiiwatani is an Eastern mine which is known for producing a wide variety of stone types and characteristics. Akapin is a higher elevation layer/strata near the top, above Tenjou Tomae. For this reason, many Akapin layer stones are less compact and dense and typically easy to work with.
These Tomo Nagura are soft and creamy with larger grain size making them aggressive cutting Nagura, on the pre finishing side of the refinement scale. These Akapin are great for removing synthetic stone scratches and creating a blanket of haze on the bevel. 
These softer Tomo Nagura are great for making slurry on all levels of base stone hardness and are also wonderful for conditioning stone surfaces.
