Atagoyama is a Western mine located within Mount Atago, which is the boundary line which distinguishes Eastern/Western mines. Atagoyama produced a wide variety of stone types and characteristics. This Tomae features a vibrant yellow Kiita base with underlying Karasu patterns. This is a super unique and rare type of Atagoyama rarely seen these days. Atagoyama stones can tend to be on the elastic side in terms of sharpening feel but this stone is more dense and firm. The stone is highly abrasive and inky with self slurry produced by heavier blades like knives and tools. Razors will raise no self slurry. For finishing razors, this would make a wonderful standalone finisher as its fast cutting speed can be unleashed with slurry created by a diamond plate or Tomo Nagura. refinement level will depend on slurry method and time taken to break it down. Capable of producing amazing, hyper keen edges with work! For polishing, the stone is amazing for creating a highly refined, yet slightly hazy Kasumi finish with amazing contrast. Versatile Kiita and super rare with the Karasu patterns.
