Hatanaka Nakayama Suita Hachimai Rare Japanese Natural Finishing Whetstone

This exceptional Japanese whetstone was selected by us and imported directly from Japan, thoroughly tested and sealed on sides and back to protect the stone for long term use. 

It measures 195 mm (7.68 inches) long × 70 mm (2.76 inches) wide × 24 mm (0.94 inches) tall, and weighs 810 g (28.57 oz / 1.79 lbs).

This extremely rare, NOS stone originates from Hatanaka Mining Co. This extremely unique example is a cut of Nakayama Hon Suita with Hachimai patterns. Nakayama Hachimai is extremely rare and the most sought after layer/pattern of Nakayama in the Japanese Domestic market. Therefore, they rarely get out of the Japanese market. These old mined Nakayama stones are revered by craftsmen in JP and have been for decades. The base color of this Suita is a vibrant, bright yellow Kiita color with Hachimai patterns and colorful banding. The stone has dropped corners but is thick, keeping it at 40' due to the corners, although there is plenty of usable surface area. This Classic Nakayama Suita demonstrates all of the desired character traits which are highly sought after including fast cutting speed and mirror polishing capabilities. Although hard and fast, the stone is composed of extremely fine abrasive particles. Perfect for all final finishing tasks where the finest edge/polish is desired. Nakayama Suita are famous for being very hard and fine yet easy to use. This is no exception and demonstrates a nuanced feel and nice elasticity which allows it to be used for knives and tools with no scratching or adverse effects. Collector Grade!
