Isaac Barber "Fertile" Early Stub Tail Rare Grind - 6/8 Rattler - Fully Restored & Horn Scaled Straight Razor - Shave Ready
This beautiful Issac Barber made during the early 1800s in Sheffield England has just been carefully fully restored by us. Being of that era, it has a stub tail and also an intricate grind with multiple facets that seems to have required much skill to create. The "Fertile" mark is interesting but was probably one of I. Barber's registered trade marks.
Blade: The blade is a heavy rattler grind, measures 3/4"wide from edge to top of the almost 1/4" thick spine and has a curved tip, a slightly smiling edge and a nice even bevel. The blade faces are glazed or "satin" finish while the tang has a crocus or "mirror" polish with some light cosmetic pitting remaining in its old crucible steel. Please inspect the photos carefully; there are no hidden flaws or polished pitting in our restorations, only crisp facets and close attention to detail.
Scales: Striking newly made translucent dark brown buffalo horn scales with brass pins and washers and a woolly mammoth ivory wedge, all of which have been fully polished to a high gloss. They balance and pair very nicely with this blade which is held tightly and centers well between them.
Honing: A new bevel was set on the blade and it was further honed using natural stones and then stropped on shell cordovan. It has been disinfected and is ready to put into immediate use. We take pride in our honing and are sure that this razor will give a keen shave.
