Japanese Natural Finishing Toishi Whetstone - Nakayama Tomae Ikimurasaki Koppa

This exceptional Japanese Whetstone was purchased by us from the estate of a collector of fine Japanese hones. It measures 120 mm long × 89 mm wide × 21 mm tall with a weight of 378 grams.

A beautiful and unique Nakayama Tomae. Ikimurasaki refers to the purples, reds and pinks coloring the stone. There are also some orange/yellow Namazu floating around. This stone is hard and fine but not super hard. It's great for razor finishing but care must be taken when using Mikawa Nagura as the stone will release itself into the slurry. this will be obvious as the stones mud is rich and pink. Honing on water only is smooth and a bit elastic. Diamond slurry sped the stone up and the slurry darkened with swarf. for knives, the stone cuts fast and feedback is velvety smooth. not much self slurry but just enough to make it comfortable. the finish is a beautiful, bright, hazy Kasumi finish.
