John Weiss - Gorgeous Fancy 5/8" Blade with Black Horn Scales - Vintage London Straight Razor - Shave Ready
In Silver Blaze, one of Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories, a knife found on the crime scene is a surgical instrument marked Weiss & Co., London.
In 1888, Weiss surgical knives were used by the serial killer, Jack the Ripper. Earlier, in 1882, they were the silent weapons of choice for the Phoenix Park assassins in Dublin.

Restoration: Unpinned, lightly polished and cleaned to remove all staining, scales were cleaned and polished, repined and finally the blade was honed, stropped and sanitized

Finishes: Crocus (mirror) finish on spine and tang and slightly glazed (satin) finish on the blade faces
Condition: Just beautiful, only the most minor blemishes (patina) remaining in the steel, commensurate with its age

Condition: Glossy and restored to almost original condition preserved, the blade is held firmly and closes nicely centered between the scales, not that their is a small hairline fracture in the horn by the wedge pin which is still very stable
Each one of our restored razors is brought back to life with a passion and attention to detail like it would be an addition to our own collection or user rotation. Many years of restoration experience and hundreds of restored razors sold around the world have refined our processes, but each razor is still given the time and individual attention it needs. Our vintage razors undergo dozens of steps involving blade unpinning (where necessarily) metal grinding/sanding with a range of different diameter and hardness wheels with various grits of abrasive and polishes. Scales are straightened and repaired when necessary, wet sanded and polishing. After the razor’s cosmetic and functional repairs are completed, a multistep honing process using a range of synthetic and natural sharpening stones is used to bring each razor back to keen and comfortable shaving sharpness. Finally stropping is performed on one of our cordovan leather strops and the blade is sanitized in Barbicide hospital-grade disinfectant.
