Mikawa Shiro Nagura - Mejiro - Japanese Natural Whetstone - Choose Your Stone
Asano Stamped Mikawa Shiro Nagura Mejiro stones. These authentic Mikawa Shiro Nagura Mejiro are graded as Betsuju, meaning white and irregular in shape. Mejiro is noticeably finer than Tenjou and typically sits third of the four primary Mikawa nagura layers in a traditional honing progression.
Mejiro stones are highly regarded for both razor honing and sword or blade polishing. With Koma nagura in increasingly short supply, Mejiro has often been used as a capable substitute for final refinement stages. White Mejiro are generally more common, while striped Tokkyu examples are more rare and sought after.
Mejiro demonstrates a light, fine abrasive texture that breaks down progressively, allowing it to become quite fine with proper working. It is also possible to complete a Mikawa nagura progression with Mejiro and then move to a tomo nagura for finishing. Mejiro stones with grey or blue striping often exhibit excellent hardness and particularly strong performance characteristics.
