This exceptional Japanese whetstone was selected by us and imported directly from Japan and thoroughly tested and the sides and back were sealed with clear lacquer.

Asano stamped Mikawa Shiro Nagura Atsu. Sword Grade rated, pure white Nagura with no flaws. Atsu is a lesser known layer of Mikawa Shiro Nagura which is rated lower on the Refinement spectrum of Nagura. Traditionally used in place of, or with Chu Nagura in a sword polishing progression and also for barber shears. This Sword grade piece is extremely versatile and useful for a wide variety of applications. When used for direct razor honing, it can be seen as a foundational step by bridging the gap between 1000 grit scratches and natural stone scratches and makes a great jumping point. Although it releases relatively coarse and aggressive particles when slurry is forced, it has the hardness to support slurry breakdown and if proper work and technique are applied, nice Refinement capabilities are achievable. Can be followed by many options including fine Nagura, Suita, and any pre finisher. When used for polishing, it cuts effectively and produces a detailed, hazy and deep Kasumi finish.
