This exceptional Japanese whetstone was selected by us and imported directly from Japan, thoroughly tested and sealed on sides and back to protect the stone for long term use.

It measures 205 mm (8.07 inches) long × 75 mm (2.95 inches) wide × 23 mm (0.91 inches) tall, and weighs 886 g (31.26 oz / 1.95 lbs).

Hardness: 4.7
This Nakayama stone was sourced from the Hatanaka Mining Company's remaining rough stone stock after closing. All of the Nakayama stones in this batch represent older mining. They are from the exact same stock as the famous "Maruka" stamped Nakayama but they were stored in raw ore form, therefore not stamped with Hatanaka/Maruka stamps. This smooth, hard Kiita contains some beautiful reddish Iromono tones and dense Nashiji which comes together to form a beautiful landscape. This stone has a wonderfully firm base with extremely smooth sharpening feel. Although hard, the stone has a degree of cushion or elasticity which allows for a wide range of applications. Mikawa Nagura progressions are excellent with clear feedback and great longevity despite the stones fast cutting ability. Standalone finishing is impressive which is typical for Nakayama Stones. Amazing for polishing clad blades, tools and Honyaki with vivid, bright and detailed, mirror like Kasumi finish. These standard 40' bench stones are already becoming increasingly rare and valuable. There are many fakes and the number of counterfeit Nakayama's on the market at all times is insane. Rest assured that these Nakayama stones are 100% authentic with entire origin story confirmed by direct source. If you're looking for a smooth, user friendly kiita which is capable of maximum refinement, look no further! Collector Grade!

A photo of the stone's polishing ability on soft and hard steels of a Japanese kitchen knife are shown.
