This vintage Nakayama Maruka was sourced through an old, famous hardware shop in Japan. The owner, who is well respected as a craftsman, purchased these stones from Hatanaka Mining Co. This pristine Mizu Asagi demonstrates amazing hardness, perfect for a professional barber. The kanji on the backside of the stone indicates that the stone originates from Hatanaka and it is also stamped on the end cap with the Maruka Sho Honyama stamp. This Mizu Asagi is hard but extremely forgiving. Great for Mikawa nagura or standalone finishing. This Maruka demonstrates amazing ease of use characteristics which is quite rare to see these days. This piece has an extremely smooth, easy to use feel, even when sharpening heavier blades. It's an extremely useful stone and comes with a rich history\/pedigree to match. Razors can be honed to an ultra keen, light saber edge with relative ease. This stone may become more hard as it's lapped down, but we can't say for certain.
