This exceptional Japanese whetstone was selected by us and imported directly from Japan, thoroughly tested and sealed on sides and back to protect the stone for long term use. 

It measures 205 mm (8.07 inches) long × 75 mm (2.95 inches) wide × 37 mm (1.46 inches) tall, and weighs 1468 g (51.78 oz / 3.24 lbs).

Okudo Shiro Suita Kuro Renge. Okudo is an Eastern, yamashiro area mine. Okudo is famously called Suitayama as it's stones of all layers can contain Su holes. Okudo Suita are considered by in large the King of Suita for their high cutting speed and refinement capabilities. Compared to many Suita, Okudo Suita are known to produce extremely fine finishes. This particular Suita is extremely rare being 30' size, free of any toxic lines, and Kuro Renge. Kuro or black Renge is typically acidic and a bit extra care should be taken to rinse the blade of slurry when idle. Typically Kuro Renge stones contain traces of sulfuric Acid which acts as an etching agent if mud is left to dry on the blade. Overall, with standard Honing practices, oxidation is avoided.
