Shobudani Gousa Rare Vintage Japanese Natural Finishing Whetstone

This exceptional Japanese whetstone was selected by us and imported directly from Japan, thoroughly tested and sealed on sides and back to protect the stone for long term use. 

It measures 207 mm (8.15 inches) long × 75 mm (2.95 inches) wide × 33 mm (1.30 inches) tall, and weighs 1340 g (47.27 oz / 2.95 lbs).

Vintage Shobudani Gousa razor hone with original box. This large bench stone is extremely dense and fine, which are common characteristics of Gousa layer stones. Gousa is a rare, small, layer which is located between Shiki Tomae (Asagi) and Aisa. The stones are extremely compact and fine which makes them amazing for razor honing. This stone is pure and clean with no visible flaws or inconsistencies. The stones green Azuki base color is deep and dark with underlying Suminagashi patterns. This stone is best suited for Mikawa Shiro Nagura Progressions. This stone feels close to stone while honing with excellent feedback. not the most textured but just enough tactile feel to make water only laps interesting.
