Shobudani Ikimurasaki Nashiji Ooban Japanese Natural Whetstone
Hardness: 4
Beautiful, large Shobudani Ikimurasaki, similar to Iromono. This piece is a larger square shaped stone which is a rare size/shape offering both length and extra width, creating an extra large surface area. This Tomae appears to be Tamagoiro colored on its base with colorful shades of reds encompassing the surface. There are also consistent Nashiji patterns. This piece is medium hard with extremely silica rich abrasive. Its combination of ease of use and efficient cutting speed make it extremely versatile and appropriate for nearly all applications. Shobudani is one of the original Honyama Mines, along with Nakayama. Shobudani has a rich mining history and was known as Gosenryu. Shobudani produced a wide variety of stone types/strata.
