Synthetic Coticule Rare Antique 7" x 1 3/4" Barber's Razor Sharpening Hone - Lapped & Ready to Use
This cleaned and restored vintage "synthetic coticule" razor hone was made for barbers, perhaps having been molded from compressed coticule dust and with a slate (perhaps Thurigian?) backing. I've owned a couple of these types of stone and they are very slow, very fine stones; finer that a coticule and this one measures 1 1 3/4" wide x 7" long x 7/16-9/16" thick. It has been lapped smooth and flat on the light side and slightly flattened on the dark side so it will stay steady while honing, but is still dished and would need to be fully flattened before use on that side It also has had a couple corner chips eased which will not affect any blade being honed on it. A very usable hone for keeping your razors keen, this collectible vintage barber hone is hard to find and is a very good final polishing stone.
