These Kanetake brand Japanese straight razors have been made by fourth generation blacksmith, Mr. Norikazu Takahashi. Norikazu is the first in his family to make Japanese straight razors. The family forge is well known and legendary in Japan by craftsmen for their tools and cutlery.
Mr. Takahashi is recognised as a Dentoukougeishi in Japan. (Dentoukougeishi are highly skilled master artisans recognised by the Japanese government for their commitment to protecting traditional arts and techniques.)
One of these techniques is mastery of smelting/forging Tamahagane steel.
Mr Takahashi is world renowned for his Tamahagane Kamisori which he only rarely makes these days.
Takahashi San is well known for his masterful heat treatment of Aogami and Shirogami steels as well which are loved by many.
The handles are wrapped in traditional white Rattan for a natural and durable tactile experience which flows beautifully into the rugged, hand forged Kurouchi finished neck. These Kamisori have a unique blend of rustic, yet refined charm which appeals to many high end collectors.
Honing: This razor came from the maker unsharpened so they have been honed to our high standards by Matt on Japanese toishi and awasedo. They have also been stropped and are ready for immediate use.
