A few stones are shown as examples only, this listing is for one stone only.
These are old, unused Scottish Tam O'Shanter natural sharpening stones (also called Water of Ayr Stones, Snake Stones, or simply Scotch Stones) sold for many uses decades ago. Marketed as razor hones in larger sizes and know of their very gentle steel cutting properties, these smaller hones were sold for lithographers, watchmakers etc. Though small in size, they could also be used carefully as razor hones. They are sold in original, rough cut and chiseled condition and would need to be lapped before use but are a soft hone and easy to lap. When properly lapped to a high grit they are thought to be mid-finishing range stones.
NOTE: We have dozens of these snd most have labels but some have partial or totally missing labels. Earliest orders will receive labelled stones.
