Offered here are rare and celebrated Water of Ayr sharpening stones, a piece of history from the original workshop on the Dalmore estate in rural Stair, Scotland. In widespread use since the late 1700s if not before, the Water of Ayr (WOA) provides an exceptionally precise finish with a grain size ranging from 9000 to 11,000. This charcoal-gray to black stone, resembling a black Escher, is traditionally used for razors and scalpels. It offers a silky soft feel during honing and is ideal for razor sharpening.
These are fully lapped by us on one surface and ready to use.
The stone surfaces are pictured dry.
