Whiteheart Hone - Historic American Extra Fine Grain Sharpening Stone - Suitable for Razor Finishing - CHOOSE YOUR STONE
This is a historically used but until now unavailable quartzose whetstone from Woonsocket, Rhode Island. With documented use back into at least the early 1800s, It is a hard and very fine grit stone that leaves an excellent mellow edge on straight razors. Also described as a sandstone slate or micaceous sandstone it is very hard, almost like a translucent Arkansas stone but works faster. Traditionally harvested as a handsome & fire resistant stone for lining fireplaces, hearths etc., the stone dust also reportedly was mixed with tallow and used as a sharpening paste.
It is best used as a razor finishing hone after a Smithfield Hone, Coticule, 8K grit synthetic stone etc. It’s also capable of refreshing slightly dulled edges, and over a year of testing has proven to us that this hone is indeed excellent for razor and fine instrument sharpening duties.
Use only water as a lubricant.
These hones are hand collected from the original quarry site, cut, lapped and tested by GSG owner M. Wojtaszek. These are natural stones, and as such the color, size and shape will vary slightly from stone to stone. A selection of historical references can be viewed in the images, as well as the current selection of available hones.
