These Hideriyama Uroko Tomo Nagura are unique and highly effective, great for many purposes.
Uroko is a layer/strata of Hideriyama which is unique to Hideriyama. Hideriyama's Formation is said to be Ai ishi Naori or Naka ishi nari, which is between Hon Kuchi Naori or Hon ishi nori and Chu ishi Naori or Goishinori. Uroko tends to produce stones which are more firm, dense, and fine when compared to most Hideriyama stones.
These Nagura are best used as a slurry medium when honing on a harder base stone for honing, this releasing more slurry from the Nagura in theory. This will generally increase the cutting strength of the finishing stone and result in a less refined result than using the stone with water only.
Great for removing medium. grit scratches and setting the stage for a fine Tomo Nagura. Also great for polishing cutlery when used on a wide variety of base stones and will directly affect the polish by adding depth and contrast to the Kasumi finish.
Great for polishing the surface of a harder base stone after lapping with a progression of diamond plates by refining the stones surface to a highly polished but matte state, allowing for the user to gain maximum refinement.
These Nagura will release more of their slurry when used on base stones over Level 4 hardness.
