This Selected grade Belgian Coticule is a size 10 bout, with a sharpening surface area of approximately 84–102 cm² (13.0–15.8 square inches). Bouts are individually shaped stones, classified by surface area, with length and width varying from piece to piece. Please refer to the rulers shown in the photos for this stone’s dimensions and proportions.

Selected Grade Coticules are chosen for their cleaner, more uniform appearance, with fewer visible markings and inclusions than Standard Grade stones. Subtle natural variations give each stone its own character. The grade primarily reflects appearance, with both grades well suited to razor honing.

This Belgian Coticule comes from the atelier of Ardennes Coticule, the only remaining producer of these traditional sharpening stones. Prized for honing straight razors, knives, and tools, Coticules combine fast cutting with a fine finish. With appropriate technique and slurry control, they can be used from bevel setting through finishing, or followed by a finer finishing stone according to preference.
