These Standard Grade Belgian Coticules are size 9 bouts, each with a sharpening surface area of approximately 70–84 cm² (10.9–13.0 square inches). Bouts are individually shaped stones, classified by surface area, with length and width varying from piece to piece. Please refer to the rulers shown in the photos for each stone’s dimensions and proportions.

Standard grade Coticules are well suited to razor honing and may display more natural figuring, color variation, and hints of Belgian Blue coloring in the cross-section. These cosmetic characteristics give each stone its own distinctive appearance.

This Belgian Coticule comes from the atelier of Ardennes Coticule, the only remaining producer of these traditional sharpening stones. Prized for honing straight razors, knives, and tools, Coticules combine fast cutting with a fine finish. With appropriate technique and slurry control, they can be used from bevel setting through finishing, or followed by a finer finishing stone according to preference.
