Kato era Nakayama Kuramaguchi Kiita with Maruka stamp! Before Hatanaka Whetstone Co was founded, Kato San owned and operated the Nakayama mine. There were various mining shafts and ore pits within the Nakayama mine and the most famous and popular Nakayama of all time are Kuramaguchi Maruka. Kuramaguchi is the name of the mining shaft/ore pit where the Kuramaguchi were mined from. Kuramaguchi Nakayama contain microscopic Su holes similar to Suita stones, which occured in all layers with the Kuramaguchi shaft. Kuramaguchi Nakayama are known for their increased cutting speed and detailed and unique Kasumi finish. This is an extremely old, vintage Nakayama Tamagoiro with yellow/orange pure base color with light Nashiji and Namazu. Super smooth, creamy and easy going and extremely fast. This stone has original Kato era stamping attached with the vintage Jun Sho Honyama stamp which actually stood for Nakayama at that point in time, before it became a general term. This is a highly valuable and super rare opportunity to get such an old Nakayama Kuramaguchi with original stamps! This is a softer, yet super fine stone in terms of edge sharpening and razor honing. Can easily finish a razor and produces a crisp, keen edge quickly. Super grit rich and fast cutting for knives, tools and heavier blades with inky black swarf produced easily. Although it's softer feeling, it doesn't release a ton of self slurry under heavier blades but has a smooth, gliding feel and smooth operation. Maruka Stamp is faded but rest assured, it is authentic!
