NOTE: This listing is to purchase one hone only. We are showing a few examples in the photos so that you can see examples of the various stone coloring, figuring and surface conditions.

Unlike our other La Lune hones cut and prepared by 1Stone from old rock material, these are actual old stock hones produced from the years up until 1980 and left unsold in the original FGBC workshop in France. These are in essence the same as  vintage La Lune hones which fetch top dollar from collectors, except without the label (and wear and tear).
The hones measure 140x70mm (5.5x2.75") by about 21-25mm thick.

Use of La Lune hones:
The stone was used in the past and recommended for use with oil (glycerin, mineral oil), but the stone can be used perfectly fine with water. The surface is mostly flat and smooth but can be made perfectly flat and smooth with some fine sandpaper or a fine diamond plate.
The grain is 8000-10000+, this is a fast but very fine finishing stone for razors. We have noticed that with knives where the pressure is greater the abrasion will be greater.

History of the FGBC ”La Lune” razor hones:
FGBC = Ferdinand (o) Ghelfi, Birolleau & Cie.
The company was founded from Ferdinand (o) Ghelfi in 1903, followed by the children who took over the name of the family business with collaborators like the Ghelfi family Fratelli brothers: Carlo, Ferdinando, Lorenzo, Jean Baptiste and Constantino.
