This exceptional Japanese whetstone was selected by us and imported directly from Japan and thoroughly tested and the sides and back were sealed with clear lacquer.

It measures:

NOS Maruichi Nakayama Suita giwa Daijo/ogami. Maruichi Shokai was a popular tennen toishi wholesaler and shop which closed down decades ago. This piece is from their remaining inventory which was stored by a specialty carpentry shop in Japan. Maruichi Nakayama stones were sold/traded directly from Hatanaka/Kato inventory so this stone was processed using their inventory. maruichi stones are highly revered in the razor, knife and tool communities and for great reason. This particular koppa or small/irregular piece was mined from the small, rare border layer called Suita giwa Daijo. typically Suita giwa Daijo stones have no su holes and perform extremely fine, this piece being no exception. Suita giwa stones possess the cutting strength of Suita but also have the structure and density of Namito/Daijo/Ogami. This particular piece is extremely versatile and can be used effectively on razors, knives and tools but due its hardness, it is best for razors and tools.
